रूठे रूठे से ओ सावन के बादल !
कब बरसोगे तुम इस तपते धरती-हृदय पर ?
देखो! वो तोते कैसे गाते-इतराते….
न्यौछावर हैं तुम्हारी एक झलक पर !
सुनती नहीं क्या तुम्हें मयूर कि करुण पुकार ?
चातक भी कबसे प्रतीक्षा में है आतुर !
पुष्प- वृक्ष सिर हिला-हिलाकर तुम्हें बुलाते,
तुम खुश हो सूरज से आँख-मिचौली खेलकर !
सब मुँह बाये राह तकें, तुम नहीं पिघलते….
प्यारी कोयल भी ऊब चुकी है कुहुक-कुहुक कर
तोड़ न देना तुम अन्नदाता की आस को….
क्या पाओगे तुम उसके नैनों से बरस कर
कह जो दिया वृक्ष नष्ट अब नहीं करेंगे !
क्या चाहते हो और, बरसो अब पसीज कर
यदि अब भी तुम अपनी ये हठ नहीं छोड़ते-
ऐसे रूठेंगे हम, तुम हार जाओगे मना-मनाकर !

O sulking monsoon-clouds!
When will you rain on this burning heart of Earth?
See those parrots singing in style….
So happy after they had one glimpse of you!
Can’t you listen the heart-rending cry of the peacock ?
Skylark is also waiting since a long time!
Flowers and trees nod their heads and call you,
But you are happy to play hide and seek with the Sun!
Everyone is waiting for you, but you don’t melt….
Dear koyal is also tired of singing
Don’t shatter the hopes of our Food-provider (farmer)
What will you gain by raining from his eyes ?
We have said that we will not destroy trees now!
What else do you want, please melt and rain now
If even now you don’t leave your stubbornness-
We will be so upset that you will get tired of cheering us up !
